Solving Multiplication Problems using Splitting Factors as a Strategy! Louise and Cassie.




Problem:
Brad saves $3.25 each week, for 16 weeks. How much money did he save?
Step1: Read the problem.
Step 2: Put it into a maths equation: 16 x 3.25 =
Step 3: Choose a Strategy: Splitting Factors.
Step 4: Solve the problem.
    16 x 3.25=
    16 x 3= 48
    16 x 0.25= 4
So 48 + 4 = 52
Learning Tip: Save/ Remember all the big numbers in your head so you can add them at the end to get the answer.
