Solving Multiplication Problems using Doubling and Halving as a Strategy! Shanay and Samantha.

Problem:
There are 5 donuts in a pack. In the the box are 18 packs. How many donuts are there altogether?
Step 1: Read the problem
Step 2: Put it in a maths equation: 5 x 18 =
Step 3: Choose strategy - Doubling and Halving
Step 4: Solve it:
Double the 5 to 10, and halve the 18 to 9
So 10 x 9 = 90
Learning Tip: Always use doubling and halving when you multiply with 5 and 20. Using this strategy will always ensure you multiply by 10. That is easy.
