Central Counties Cross Country!

On Monday the 22nd of August A group of motived year 7/8’s from room 2,5 & 6 went to the central counties cross country day at Totara park. The year 7’s ran 3km’s and the year 8’s ran 3.5km’s.
As we lined up at the starting line the butterflies in our stomachs were fluttering around crazily. Suddenly, “GO!” Yelled Mr Fourie. The other runners sped up the massive hill, but we paced ourselves and WOW! What a challenge. We ended up beating many schools and we feel proud that we achieved our goals and completed this challenging, 3.5km course.
We ran against a lot of very good athletes from 6 different schools, so to get any placing was a great achievement. Congratulations to the teams. The year 7 girls and year 8 boys came first and the 7 boys and 8 girls came second. Well done teams.

Still Photography!

On Tuesday the 16th of August the year 7 and 8 students had their first day of technology rotations. On Tuesday we learnt a lot of different ways of how to take a good photo. We learnt all about the rule of thirds - this rule of thirds is when you crop a photo and make an object be on the line of thirds. We also learnt the main thing to have in a photo, for example: Light, Colour, Lines and People. We had assignments we needed to finish. There was 6 assignments we had to do. To list a few : Zoom  Zoom  Zoom- Getting closer to an object and Possum, Giraffe and Mouse- which is different perspectives. We really enjoyed the two days of still photography, thanks Miss Fothergill.

Electronics

For our first Technology rotation we learnt about electronics. On the first day we learnt how to make a circuit. We used a very cool kit to learn how to build circuits. It is called the electroflash kit. It helped us to learn about electronic components as well. We used resistors - they slows the electric current down so it does not damage certain components. The LED is used to create light, but it is very energy efficient.

We also learnt how to use the soldering irons to solder wires together. A soldering iron heats up to about 200 degrees. That is very hot! You have to put on safety glasses first of all. Then you have to put the soldering iron down and keep it there for three seconds before you add the soldering wire. You then have to keep the soldering wire for three seconds before you remove it. Remember to keep the soldering iron in position to merge the two wires together. It is important to remember to place the soldering iron back in the stand. After all you don't want to burn yourself.

We made a low voltage tester and a trick device. A low voltage tester can be used on low voltage circuits to test for problems. A trick device can be used to play tricks on people.

Rippa Rugby and Touch!

In Term 4 we will have a touch field day and to prepare us for that, Mr Fourie arranged for Counties Manukau  sport to send some coaches to work with any students who are keen to make the touch teams.
In Term 2 they came to help Mr Fourie develop our Rippa Rugby skills. That helped a lot with our preparation for the Rippa Rugby Tournament. All our teams had a successful tournament.
They are going to teach us the simple skills such as passing defending and the rules of touch. Later this term Mr Fourie will send a notice home to ask if there are any students who would like to make up teams for the Papakura Junior Touch season. These teams will need managers and coaches.

Technology Rotation

Technology
This year the year 7 and 8 technology rotations are a little more exciting than other years. Students get the opportunities to select great technology options.
Our options is: Beginning and advanced food and electronics, graphics, still photography and video photography.
We have another 3 rotations left this year. We are looking forward to these rotations and will post some clips and photos as soon as they are available.

PE - Rotation

This term we are lucky to have our wonderful teachers in Rooms 5, 2 and 6. They prepared a PE rotation which consists of golf, padder tennis and table tennis. We have just started with this rotation and we already enjoy it.
First of all our own teachers teach their own class for 3 weeks, and then they get a different class to teach. Mr Fourie teaches golf, Mrs Notley teaches padder tennis and Miss Clarke teaches table tennis.
In our class we have learnt a lot about how to hold a club and how to respect the distance of our swing. We also learnt how to grip the club and stand in the right position. There is a lot more technical aspects in the game of golf than we realised. Mr Fourie is not only our teacher but also a golf enthusiast and a coach at the first tee golf academy. So he makes sure that we learn to do things the correct way.
So far we have learnt to hit the ball over different distances with the same loft club by not hitting the ball any harder. All we had to do is adjust our swing. A birdie told us that Mr Fourie is developing a little golf course on our school ground to let us test our new skills.
We are excited about doing this PE rotation and cant wait to try the other sports!

Cubism Art - Pablo Picaso!

Pablo Picasso Art
On Tuesday the 2nd of August we did some amazing art. We learnt about Pablo Picaso and the art that made him famous. We enjoyed learning about cubism and how to use contrasting colors to make our art look great. We had to use dark vivid lines and let our face look in two different directions. We join two faces together, one angle was of the side of our face then a straight facing angle. We used very colorful and strange colors and created a work of art. Most students said that they liked the bright colors and the shape of the faces. We liked learning to join the two faces together by the nose and mouth on the faces. The eye facing sidewards was a challenge. But we showed resilience and worked hard to get it looking in the correct direction. Now we are looking at our colorful art work on the wall and think it looks stunning. You never know, one of us could be the New Zealand version of Pablo Picaso.
We would like to thank Mrs Sentch for doing this art with us.

Basketball with Counties Manukau Basketball

To raise our basketball skills and remind us how much fun basketball is, Mr Fourie arranged some basketball sessions with Counties Manukau Basketball at school. On Mondays and Tuesdays of weeks 1 - 3 the entire Reremoana school are doing a basketball development program.
During these sessions we have learnt different techniques and skills to help us in the future if we ever want to participate in BasketBall.
Some of the drills we used to improve our skills were: We did some warm-up’s, passing, dribbling the ball around the court.
Next we got into partner’s and practiced a variety of passes and dribbling exercises. We then played some hands on games. We used our new improved skills to show of our talent. The instructor split us into two even teams, standing on either side of the court and listening to the instructions for our next task which was to listen out for a number of people to come out from each team and play, the first to score a goal is the winning team. Finally we played a game that was like musical chairs only without the music and the chairs but with bright colored mats, placed around a corner on the court. This game helped us use our new skills to be able to become better basketball players.
We would like to thank Mr Fourie for organising this for our entire school.

Cross Country - Practise!

In Term 2 we had the Reremoana School Cross Country day. Mr Fourie have used those results to select eight year 7 and 8 boys and girls to have a team of 32 athletes. They will compete at the Central Counties Cross Country field day on the 22nd August at Totara Park.
After a two week holiday we were not ready to run in this tournament. We knew we had to raise our fitness levels firs. So Mr Fourie kindly agreed to a student request to train us to get to our top shape for this field day. We have training every Tuesday to Friday morning from 8:00 to 8:30 and believe us Mr Fourie comes prepared with a lot of interesting exercises. The first week of training was very hard because we were so unfit and had to shake of being  couch potatoes during the holidays, but when week two came around we started to return to out normal fitness. So thanks Mr Fourie for making us fitter for Cross Country. We are sure every athlete that made an effort to train will be a lot fitter and will do well. Good luck to all the athletes. Hopefully they will be selected for the Central Counties Cross Country team that will take part at the Counties Cross Country field day at the grueling Paparimu Cross Country Course.
